LGBT Excellence Centre Helpline

Our Helpline has been in operation since 2007 and has continued to be staffed by volunteers ever since.

Operating the Helpline can be rewarding in many ways. It is an opportunity to help others who may seeking information & advice about local venues or who may be questioning their sexuality or gender identity, be encountering homophobia, biphobia or transphobia or need advice about many other LGBT related issues.

The helpline is currently looking to expand its opening times and run from 9.00am to 9.00pm, so as long as you can help between these times we'd love to hear from you!

For more information on this role, we have a volunteering role description here.

Counselling Project

The LGBT Excellence Centre is currently developing an in-house Counselling Service for our service users, in order to extend the scope of the help and support we can offer to the LGBT Community.

We have a dedicated space that is being developed specifically for the counselling service and are very keen to develop a strong base of volunteers that can put it to good use!

No matter if you are a qualified counsellor looking to keep your skills up to scratch, or a student councellor looking to build up your assessed hours, we would love to speak to you.

We are able to offer specific training on LGBT issues so this is not a pre-requisite to being a volunteer on this project.

Welsh Pride, the Heritage Project

The LGBT Excellence Centre Wales has launched a unique project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund that focuses on the cultural heritage of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in Wales: Welsh Pride. Working in partnership with the National Museum Wales and others, the project will research stories, experiences, anecdotes, ideas, artefacts, photographs and collections of Welsh people or people who lived in Wales in the last century. The project aims to create the greatest archive of Welsh LGBT Culture and History to be used as a base for leaning, raising awareness, fighting discrimination and promoting equality.

In support of this project, we are looking for volunteers who; have an interest in researching the background of Welsh Pride, would be keen to visit sites and physically catalougue any Welsh Pride material, are capable of managing an online archive, and or, just want to support with office logistics.

No formal background in heritage or archiving is required for this project, as full training will be offered.

IT, Admin and Communication

Know how to set up and configure a network? Have a passion for filing? Want to speak directly to and liaise meetings with senior figures in Wales (and abroad) on behalf of the LGBT Excellence Centre? Then this is your call.

We simply dont function without the everyday tasks being done, and the more exicting projects we embark on, the more we need someone keeping an eye on the basics.

These projects always require meetings to be coordinated, diaries to be consulted and emails to be drafted and sent.

Maybe you are looking for your first expereince in an office environment, are looking to generate hours to support a working qualification, and just aiming to sharpen some skills, we would be keen to talk to you.

No previous expereince is required, and full training and support will be given.

Yes?  Then we want to talk to you.

Seriously, we do.  Ideas can lead to groups, which can lead to funding bids, which can lead to projects, which ultimately can lead to positive changes.
