Consulting
with LGBT people can help make decisions between alternative policy
proposals, indicates the need for further policy and legislation
review or development, and accesses the widest possible range of
sources to improve the quality of decision making.
The Wales Council
for LGBT People is about people sharing ideas, thinking for
themselves, expressing their views effectively, planning,
prioritising and being involved in the decision making process to
create change through:
- Access to
those in power
- Access to the
relevant information
- Choices
between different options
- Support from
a trusted independent person and where needed a
representative
- A means of
appeal or complaint if things go wrong
The Wales Council
for LGBT People aims to encourage and facilitate participation of
people in the decision making process in relation to social care,
health, housing, education, employment and business advice at these
different levels:
- To help with
the process of increasing the level of participation of everyone in
decision making and policy-making and increase capacity for
co-creation
- To be a
resource for organisations wanting to engage with LGBT people in
Wales
- To support
organisations throughout Wales in carrying out consultations and
participatory activities with LGBT people from diverse backgrounds
in all areas of policy
- To help
ensure consistency and quality in consultations and participatory
activities, taking into account the diversity of LGBT
groups
- To provide
feedback and statistics of the different outcomes in relation to
policy consultations
- To provide
specific case studies of different examples of participation from
people from diverse LGBT communities
- To provide a
reference list of relevant information which can be regularly
updated in order to facilitate information sharing and best
practice
- To be a
comprehensive and accessible ongoing resource for policy
consultation with LGBT people from diverse backgrounds
- To provide
advocacy for those LGBT people more vulnerable and at risk of not
having their needs met by current service provision in
Wales.
